MYCELIA: The fungus mycelium serves as a model for thought and describes thread-like cells of a fungus. They grow invisibly in the nutrient medium and combine underground over square kilometres to form a huge biological mass. In this network, mycelia also provide a healthy ecosystem for outside organisms. The exhibition Mycelia is a collaborative reflection on current issues of artistic success and divides the exhibition into three sections: Ecosystem, networking and detoxification.

For the exhibition, female artists from Munich and Riga reflect in divided groups across geographical distances. The internet is changing the possibilities for cooperation and how to get in touch with other artists; ideas grow across distances; sketches and thoughts are sent via Skype. In current times in which COVID-19 is changing public life, the exhibition is becoming an unexpected necessity, because the economic consequences for art and culture are massive.
We need collective thinking; we need common structures; we need a healthy ecosystem.

Installation “Exotic, is it not?” is a part of the installation “Tropical exotic network express”, developed and made together with artist Penelope Richardson.

The serie of eight paintings is supplemented with an artist book that consists of short stories related to each of the paintings. The book and the paintings offer the viewer to rethink the role of a woman and, especially, woman - artist in the contemporary world. What does artistic success mean and what it means being an artistically successful woman – artist?
